VLOOKUP (I can't figure these out)

I have been at this wall for the past day and a half and would appreciate it beyond belief if I could get help.

I'm trying to find a VLOOKUP formula for Column C that follows these rules (spreadsheet below):
    1. if the updated date from a provider matches the estimated amount, the amount stays as the estimated amount
    2. if there is no report from a provider, the amount stays as the estimated value
    3. if the estimated and reported values aren't the same, the reported value is used to replace the estimated value

The second one is I have this on a sheet named "Problem 3.1":

I need a VLOOKUP formula that references to the main sheet named "Problem 3" (below) that will display the Sales, Commission and Status by entering either the EmpID or Salesperson name, displaying the text "Enter EmpID or Name" when they're blank.

Currently it works if I enter an EmpID but if its blank and I use only a Salesperson's name, it doesn't work.

You can probably tell this is for some sort of class by now. After sitting at my desk for about a day and a half entering all sorts of variations of formulas and getting nowhere, I don't know where else to turn.

I would REALLY appreciate input on this.

Re: VLOOKUP (I can't figure these out)

Hi APi45, welcome to the forum.

We know that nothing is more frustrating than to be working on homework and to get stuck. Without guidance, you might have no hope of finishing the assignment before the deadline. The Internet can be a big help in that respect, but without learning how to get the right answer, asking others to solve your homework questions for you simply becomes a downward spiral (and it's cheating).

We do not want to contribute to you cheating yourself out of your education, but we also acknowledge that seeking assistance to learn a concept is a legitimate request.

If you are genuinely interested in receiving help in the form of tutoring or coaching, then please rephrase the title of your original post to clearly indicate you are seeking coaching or tutoring help. Any forum members (who are willing to assist as a tutor) will modify their responses accordingly to facilitate your learning. Tutors don't tell you the answers, they help you figure it out for yourself; so don't expect answers, expect suggestions, or just plain hints. Also, be specific in describing the function/formula or technique you trying to learn, and tell us what you have attempted so far. Otherwise, expect your plea for homework answers to be ignored.

You don't have to add Rep if I have helped you out (but it would be nice), but please mark the thread as SOLVED if your issue is resolved.

    Tom
