copy table from website -heading ok but data misses col A

    Hello,
I am trying to copy and paste a table from a website and it works with one exception. What happens is when I paste the data into my spreadsheet the heading is entered in the correct columns e.g. A-R,but the second row onwards that contains the data is offset and is entered from B-S.I wonder if anyone might be able to offer reasons or solutions please.
The website is pw protected so I cannot make it available for inspection.

There's probably a blank character (mostly likely a space or a tab) at the start of each row, which Excel is interpreting as being a new column marker.
You could confirm this by pasting the website data into Notepad first. Notepad won't make it into a table so it will probably look a bit of a mess, but you'll see if there is a space or tab at the start of each line.

The solution depends on how often this needs to be done.
If only occasionally, then it's probably easiest to fix manually. First go to A1 and insert a cell - choose the option to 'Shift cells right'. Then delete column A.
If you need to do this often, then a macro is probably the best solution. The code below will do the same as above:

    Hope that helps.

If your problem is solved, please go to 'Thread Tools' above your first post and 'Mark this Thread as Solved'.
If you use commas as your decimal separator (1,23 instead of 1.23) then please replace commas with semi-colons in your formulae.
You don't need to give me rep if I helped, but a thank-you is nice.
