Need Excel Chart for Tracking Attendance points.

Hi- I'm pretty much a novice with excel. I need to be able to track employee attendance points on a rolling 12-month basis. For example, an employee gets 8 points for each unexcused absence and 4 points for a leave early or tardy. Right now I use a very rudimentary spreadsheet and enter the data manually, rolling them off manually at the 12-month mark. If someone has something easier to use that might even roll the points off automatically, that would awesome. Thanks.

    Welcome to the forum!

Will you please attach a sample Excel workbook? We are not able to work with or manipulate a picture of one and nobody wants to have to recreate your data from scratch.

    1. Make sure that your sample data are REPRESENTATIVE of your real data. The use of unrepresentative data is very frustrating and can lead to long delays in reaching a solution.

    2. Make sure that your desired results are also shown (mock up the results manually).

    3. Make sure that all confidential data is removed or replaced with dummy data first (e.g. names, addresses, E-mails, etc.).

    4. Try to avoid using merged cells as they cause lots of problems.

Unfortunately the attachment icon doesn't work at the moment, so to attach an Excel file you have to do the following: just before posting, scroll down to Go Advanced and then scroll down to Manage Attachments. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.

Please pay particular attention to point 2 (above): without an idea of your intended outcomes, it is often very difficult to offer appropriate advice.

Where in the attachment will I find a manual mock-up of what you want to do with the data? All I see is a matrix with points recorded.

Right now, I am simply totaling the accrued attendance points for each employee each month and then entering those over to the point in time they would come off, which would be 12 months from then. What I want to do is get an idea of how can I do that better. I'd be willing to pay someone to even help me design something.

    What about something like this:
    1) Display today's date in cell D1
    2) Change the values in row 3 to actual dates (i.e. 1/1/17, 2/1/17...) formatted 'mmm'
    3) Add a column (B) to keep track of the current number of points using:
    Formula: copy to clipboard

Notice that for demonstration purposes I have changed the range of dates in row 3 so that it begins with Dec of 2016. The points that were awarded during Dec. 2016 are not included in the current total as those have 'rolled off'.
    4) Use the sum function to populate row 42
