Criteria On merged cells loses its border properties???

Hello folks,

If I merge cells A1 to A10 into one solid cell and make a criteria on those cells, the ones fitting the criteria have no possible border settings.

In other words, once these cells are merged and filtered by a specific criteria, how can we apply a border around them????

The problem is that once cells are merged, the cells in the middle aren't accessible to apply border properties on them!!!

So how do we get around this problem?
