This is driving me nuts!
Long story short:
Is there a way you can drag-and-drop Outlook emails / header data *without* bringing the column headings over too?
Long story (painfully) long:
Right now I can drag an Outlook email - or a block of emails - straight into Excel. It fills in the default fields (From, Subject, Received, Size, Categories, Doc ID and Filed To) as separate columns. Lovely.
All of that is with our default Outlook settings (just a minor change to the date format). I don't need some of those fields, but I just put in some hidden columns to eat them. I'm trying to avoid other users needing to mess about too much. Drag and drop, lots of fields then pre-populate depending on the sender etc. Nothing easier*.
It works great. There has been only one minor issue: when I do this, it also brings over the column headings. So a single email comes across as two rows - one for the headings, one for the data. I can delete the row, and it's a minor pain in the backside, but it's still fairly obvious.
The problem will be when inserting rows. I've decided to track email chains under the primary, so I've got a macro wot copies the original's details and formatting into a new inserted row underneath the primary (I still need to work out how to have the generated row change one cell from "primary" to "secondary" without needing to click on it, because I hate clicks, but whatevs).
What I want to do is drag the secondary email into that new inserted row so it overwrites the original's email header data (and there's some conditional stuff that blanks out some of the other details). And I can! It's great.
At the moment my "add a duplicate" macro has to add two rows, just so the user can drag/drop the email, and then delete the top row. But with the way the column header comes along for the ride, if folk aren't paying attention, the column-heading row will over-write the row above, or they'll put it too low and delete email details below it. I mean, it's got a box showing the area you're pasting to, but people are people, and people mess up.
Even if they don't mess it up, I still hate that row. I hate deleting rows. Three extra clicks! THREE! A person has only so many clicks in them. It is my moral obligation not to waste those precious clicks.
Can I drag-drop without the headings?
