Make scroll bar end at the last column of data

My current spreadsheet ends at column BJ. When I use the scroll bar at the bottom of the spreadsheet and drag it to the right, it will scroll past BJ to DJ, (an extra 53 columns of unused blank columns). How can I eliminate the extra columns so that the scroll bar ends at BJ?

I tried using the Find & Select/Go to Special/Blanks and trying to delete them, to no avail. Got a better idea?

Usually when that happens, something was typed into those columns at some point and Excel remembers it. if you select the last empty column, the whole column, then press CTRL+SHIFT+Right Arrow, it will select every column to the right of your data. Right click on any of the letters on the top and select Delete. Now when you save the file and reopen it, Excel should forget that data was ever over there.

Thanks so much for your reply!
Following your steps, the additional columns still remain. I saved the changes, exited the file and returned, only to find the same problem.
    Any suggestions?

I usually use the Workbook_Open event to keep screen area under control.
    As per example.

Setting the sheet size stops the right & down scroll arrows going past the viewable sheet limit.
The sheet can be taken beyond the viewable limits if only hidden.
