Getting Dates into the same format throughout a column.

    Hi,
I'm new to Excel. I'm have a budget sheet with a dates column in which i can enter expenses by date. I originally had the column all in the same date format, but now halfway down the column the date format has changed. I don't know how to make it all uniform in format. Thanks for your help.
    Cheers,
    Hugh

I don't see a date format change. The format is 'Date' for each cell. But, dates are a funny thing, since Excel also lets you choose the 'locale'. And, if you choose certain ones, it will convert the date to match the person's personal settings.

So, highlight your dates. In the Home Menu bar, click on the 'arrow' in the bottom right corner of the 'Number' section. A dialog box will open. Choose the number format you prefer (you currently have it set for English (Canada) locale). Hit OK. The numbers should all have the same format.

    Two things:
    1) While I didn't notice a format change in your example, you did suddenly switch from year 2020 to year 2005. If that is your problem, then you just need to correct the dates.
    2) The 'English (United States)' locale has number options that begin with an asterisk (*). These are handy because they will format the number to match the user's preference based upon their OS. Specifically, some countries prefer Month/Day/Year and others prefer Day/Month/Year. This setting would match what the person typically works with.

Thanks Pauleyb for taking the time to answer my question. I'm not sure how the dates I entered got re-formatted or changed to other dates, but I ended up switching to US format for dates and then entered the dates in again. Everything is good now and I know what to do going forward. Thanks again for your help.
    Cheers,
    Hugh
