How to get columns to feed over onto next page

What I would like to do is have two columns of a table on one page and as I add to it for it to feed over on that page If I added to the first column) and onto a new page if required.

I have attached an example, which at the moment prints on two sides but what I would like to have is two columns on the first page, with it feeding onto another page as I add items.

Can I do this in Excel? Any ideas or solutions would be great!

I'm not sure I understand the difficulty.

Unless you've selected a particular range Excel will print on as many pages as necessary, onto a 3rd page as you add more data.

Re: How to get columns to feed over onto next page

Sorry, let me try and explain it again.

The file that I sent shows a single column on the left-hand side. It prints as two pages as you would expect. I'd like to achieve the table being shown as two columns on the first page, with the second continuing from the first. Then as I add items I'd like it to feed over to the second side.

I hope that this makes more sense!

    Sorry, I still don't follow.

The sheet contains two columns on the 'left' not a single column.

Are you saying you want just column A to print, spilling over on to two pages, and then you want column B to carry on printing on page 2 the spilling into page 3.

Re: How to get columns to feed over onto next page

Thanks for your reply, Richard. OK, let me see if I can explain.
    • The sheet that I attached has two columns on the left-hand side with the headings Food Group and Food, giving me my table.
    • I will add items as time goes on so the columns will get longer and will need to spill over. The additions could be in either column.
    • I would like to see the table (2 columns) spill over onto the right-hand side of the page first and then onto a second page when the first page is full.
    • When I print, I want to see a page with a table on the left and on the right so creating a full and balanced page with the maximum amount of information that can be accommodated on it.

I hope that I am making sense!

Re: How to get columns to feed over onto next page

Your OP talked about Printing on a second page. Printing the two columns will automatically cause a new sheet of paper, i.e. a 2nd 'page' to be printed.

Are you really talking about what you SEE on screen and do you have the 'Page Layout' view set rather than the 'Normal', and by 'spill over to the right hand side of the page', do you mean spill over to the right hand side of the SCREEN?

Re: How to get columns to feed over onto next page

    Hello Richard,

    Thanks for your reply.

I found this explanation so I hope that it helps to explain what I am trying to achieve.

To clarify my problem: Currently, my pages look like that

    A B C
    A B C
    A B C
    A B C
    . . .
But what I want is this:

    A B C A B C A B C
    A B C A B C A B C
    A B C A B C A B C

    I found this at https://superuser.com/questions/4149...-column-layout

    For your questions:
My comments are from what I see on screen so I'd like to see the layout above and be able to print it like that.
    • I have created my table in the normal view.
    • I would like to see my two columns in my table spill over from the left-hand side of the screen to the right as the number of items increases and then to a second page as the list grows and so on.

    I hope that this helps.

Re: How to get columns to feed over onto next page

    Hi,

I'm not aware that there is any existing functionality that can achieve that directly.

You'd need a macro to work out how many columns of the sheet to use and the number of rows per 'page'. Then the macro would need to cut blocks of data from column A & B to say C & D, then delete the rows that are empty and repeat the process for as many times as necessary

Thanks for your message Richard and for checking this out. It looks like some work would need to go into doing as you suggest and I don't think that I have the time, unfortunately. I certainly don't have the knowledge! Thanks for your help and advice.
