Can't type formulas in my workbook.

I can't type any new formulas in Excel, and my old formulas are not longer working.

    For example:

If I begin to type =IFERROR, I'm able to type "=" but as soon as I start to type the "I" in IFERROR, I get: #NAME?.

I attached a copy to look at.

    Thanks.

    Hi smhelgerson,

I could open your attached workbook and add/edit formulas. I'd suggest you reinstall Excel on your machine. I've never seen this behavior and think a reinstall should be performed.

What do you mean "my old formulas are not longer working"? The formulas that are in this file (there aren't many) seem to work fine. Please give a specific example of a formula (what cell it is in), what you expect, and what you get instead.

When you type a new formula, and you type "=I" do you immediately get the #NAME? error as soon as you press the I key? Do you get the formula prompt when you type "=I"?:

If you type in =I and then ENTER then you will definitely get a #NAME error.

What happens if you just type in data? If you go to a cell and just type in a number, or a word, then ENTER, does what you type go into the cell?

Does this happen only with this Excel file, or does it happen with all of your Excel files?

Are you have any data entry problems with any other application?

Actually, I just restarted my computer and it cleared up the fault. I'd tried that yesterday but it didn't work. So...now I can't duplicate it.

Re: Can't type formulas in my workbook.

I ended up restarting my computer and it cleared up the error. It was doing it yesterday and I did a restart, but it didn't fix the problem yesterday.
But, to answer your question, it didn't give me a chance to type enter and it didn't give me a drop down list of possible functions. If I typed = and any other key, it immediately gave the #NAME error.
But now it's not doing it.
I think I'll get in touch with my tech folks and have them reinstall Excel just to clear out any glitches.

    Thanks for your help!
