I've discovered I can do separate rules for this column I'm formatting, but I'm wondering if I can combine them somehow into one rule to reduce all the clutter. The content is text.

You can create a CF formula using IF, AND, and OR, and you can make column (or row) references absolute.
Without more information, it is not possible to give a more definitive answer.

okay, but using "or" in a formula only works with absolute references correct?
if that's the case it won't work cuz my criteria is based off each relative cell in the column.
Am I right in my assumption? I wouldn't know how to write that formula with an absolute reference
=or(?,?)
one column, each cell formatted based on one value OR others. Is it possible?
it's no biggie. It's just three conditions I have, and I've already created three cf's, but for future reference I'd like to know if it'd be possible to condense
Knowing what you know about your spreadsheet, its layout and what you want to do, that may make perfect sense to you ... to me, it means nothing. I can't comment on whether your assumption is right because I don't understand it.okay, but using "or" in a formula only works with absolute references correct?

Sorry, probably too many words...
CF for one column in table based on containing text of EACH cell:
"abc"
OR
"xyz"
How do you write that formula. I'm confused about the "absolute" and "relative" references rule
Thanks
Please attach a sample workbook (not a picture or pasted copy). Make sure there is just enough data to demonstrate your need. Include a BEFORE sheet and an AFTER sheet in the workbook if needed to show the process you're trying to complete or automate. Make sure your desired results are shown, mock them up manually if necessary.
