Fill spots automatically based on provided data

    Hello,

I scrolled passed this forum for some time, looking for tips and tricks. Unfortunately, I could not find exactly what I was looking for, so I decided to open this thread.

I am looking for a more straightforward solution in Excel to fill a spreadsheet, automated preferably.

I can't post links as I am a new member. I can easily explain.

    Spot 1 Spot 5
    Spot 2 Spot 6
    Spot 3 Spot 7
    Spot 4 Spot 8

Its 8 spots, and all need to be filled. The data I want to fill it with comes in as "Bill DPS 1500" or "BILL SUPP 1500".

The only thing that actually matters is the DPS and SUPP. There is only room for 2 SUPPS and the rest of the DPS goes into the other 6 available spots.

I can provide the data in anyway that's needed to make it automated. Are there any addons or ways to do this? this would save me 10-15 hours every week. It would quite literally be life changing.

    Thank you before hand.

Is it common to hire someone to set up a functioning excel for this type of work? Cause it seems to be quite a lot of work

You can not post LINKS... but you can post a sample Excel file. See the yellow banner (top) and upload one that meets our guidelines.

Hi. Before we get going on this one...

Is your forum profile showing the Excel PRODUCT that you need this request to work with?

The best solutions often rely on knowing WHICH Office PRODUCT (Excel, NOT Windows) that you have. Please check that your forum profile is up-to-date. If you aren't sure, in Excel go to File/Account and report what it says below the MS logo at the top of that page. If your version is for Mac, please also state this.

The three most recent Excel PRODUCTS are Excel 2019, Excel 2021 and MS365 - if you are using MS365, please give this name along with the Version number in your profile (e.g. MS365 (PC) Version 2211). The version number is in the About Excel section further down the Account page.

    Cheers,

    Glenn.

    No reply...

So, to get the ball rolling... does this do what you want, or not? If you change the number in the purple cell (any number<1,000,000), the values update. It's pseudorandom, however. Every time you choose (say) 22 - it will give the same answer.

If it IS what you want, I can explain.

Re: Fill spots automatically based on provided data

    Hello,

Thank you so much for the excel, very much appreciated. I apologize for the late replies. I had no idea the level of deepness excel has.
I am using Microsoft 365 which contains the usual programs such as OneNote, word, excel, PowerPoint and so on. The specific version or year is not stated. I am assuming its the latest because I've gotten this from OneDrive subscription.

Regarding the excel you sent me: In all honesty that looks absolutely amazing tho I am not sure how to manage or understand this.

Ive attached a small sample test. Both "Extra" and Template 2 are of interest. How I am doing it now is manually, copy paste one by one. The data that is given to me is
    Person 1:
    ITSBILL SUPP 1500
    ITSBILL SUPP 1500
    ITSBILL DPS 1500
    ITSBILL DPS 1490

    Person 2:
    Lala SUPP 1455
    LALA DPS 4599
    LALA DPS 1490

    Approx 20 persons joining.

Each 8-man group can ONLY have 1 of these inputs per person. It means that within the selected 8 group, ItsBill can only be there once with either supp or dps.

    Testing.xlsx

I am not sure if it makes sense at all. Wondering if this is something that you personally would think require to much work and that ill need professional help. Id hate to waste your time.

Thank you so much for the help so far

    Regards Bill

    HELP!!

You need to be more specific... sheet & cell references... expected results... I look at these sheets and I don't see ANYTHING familiar from your original sample sheet!

Re: Fill spots automatically based on provided data

I am realizing that this is just too hard to explain, way over my head. Ima give it a try again and hopefully to your satisfaction. On Templeate 2, I've worked on this for a couple of hours. Dont laught of it.

    GOAL:
I would like to randomly input data into each of these 8 man groups. Each 8-man group starts at different times, as can be seen on "Time" reference. The data that needs to fill these 8-man spots are on the lower end of "template 2". The name of the person and his 1-6 data input. Each person can only occupy 1 spot in each 8-man group. This means each person will fill each one of these 8 man groups with maximum of 1 input.

What I have done is each spot has been specifically referred to the data in specific boxes. For example: In spot 1: =E50&" "&E51 will include the name of the person and also whatever data that's in that specific box. In spot 2 =B58&" "&B59 this is inputted. So all I need to do is input the data manually each time.

Results: As template2 shows, its automatically filled.

Does this make sense or is it just a scramble?

    Thank you again
