You press Alt+Enter to insert a new line within a cell.

Use alt-enter to force a new line (if you're typing).
In a formula:
=a1&char(10)&"hi there"&char(10)&b1

Hi Tony,
I use Excel 2003.
Are you looking to have text that you've manually typed appear as 3
separate lines within the same cell?
If so, what you can do is enter your first line of text and then press
"ALT", "Enter". That should bring you to the next line of text within
the same cell, so that you can continue typing and have your text
appear on the next line (but still remain in the same cell).
If this is not what you're seeking, my apologies! LOL
Best of luck with this!
Karen
LOL!
Kevin and Dave beat me to it! ( I didn't see their posts before I
responded - my apologies, guys.)
At least now I know I'm on the same...umm... (spreadsheet) page.
