    repeating text in cell

i'm a very new, uninformed excel user. i'm using it to construct our homeschool schedule. I have created a 'chart' with each child's name as column header and 15 min time increments as row headers. I have 'filled' each column in a specific color, per child. I am now ready to submit individual tasks to each cell, but when i enter the text in the cell, it repeats. sure something is not set right on 'format' but when i try to clear format, i lose the outline of the cell and the color too. ?can someone tell me how to fix this problem? thank you, nobodybutjustme

mmmm I'm not sure what are you talking about when you say "it repeats". Could you be more specific, give an example, thanks

    repeating text

specific example: if i type "math" and enter it in the cell, I get "mathmathmathmathmathmath. . . ." either filling the cell, or - in some cases- filling the entire row.

OK, with the cell selected go to Format > Cells > Number tab, pick category General. See it this changes things for you?

Does this happen with every new Workbook/Sheet, or it a one off?
