sum 4 lowest numbers from 5

    Hello all,

I am very new to creating formulas so did a search and found this Web Site. I have had a look through the posts, to see if anyone had asked this question (lately) and have not found what I need to do (I apologise if this has been asked before, as I bet it has many times).

I would be grateful for any help, as I am trying to use an excel spreadsheet for my Fishing Clubs match results.

    Anyway..

I am trying to get the sum of the lowest 4 numbers from 5 different cells (these cells are not in a row, they are separated by numbers in other cells which I do not want to include in this sum).

However these cells could contain the same number (which 1 of these would not be counted in the sum).

For Example if I had the following what formula could I use to get the sum of the lowest 4 from the 5 cells

    Cell....... A1........ A3....... A6....... A8........ A9........ A10 (total lowest 4 from 5)
    No......... 1........... 2......... 10....... 10......... 4......... 18

Thanks for any help, as I am trying to get to grips with excel myself, however I know this will take time. I can see it’s a very powerful tool, if you know what you are doing :-).

If your actual situation is a simple as your posted example....

    Try this:
    =SUM(A1,A3,A6,A8:A9)-MAX(A1,A3,A6,A8:A9)

Is that something you can work with?

    Thumbs up

    Ron,

Thanks for your very fast reply. Worked a treat. Thanks again.

I will be looking through a lot of this forum from now on, and trying out the reply's people get, I think that will be a good way of learning more about formulas.

As usual I do have another problem, will try to work it out myself first, however if I get totally stuck I will use this excellent forum again.

    Thanks

    Mick
