    Hi Sandeep,

Most likely the problem is that your cells are formatted as text before you're typing in the formulas.

Change them to general or number format and you should be all set.

Sometimes, after a cell has been formatted as text, it doesn't give up the format too easily. Have you tried selecting the cell, pressing F2 and then Enter?

Another possibility is that you have the view Formulas option turned on.

In Excel 2003 and earlier, go to Tools -> Options -> View tab and see if 'Formulas' is checked in the Window Options section. If it is, un-check it and click OK.

In Excel 2007, click the Office button (top left corner) and then click Excel Options. In the Options window, click Advanced then scroll down the window to the right about 50% until you see 'Display options for this worksheet', under which you'll see 'Show Formulas in Cells instead of their calculated values'. If that is checked, un-check it and click OK.
