    formatting in columns

I'm pretty new to excel & working from home so sorry if this sounds a stupid question! I'm not even sure of the correct terminology!

I need to take some name and address info from another source (copied from email) which will be formated in the following way and then I need it to automatically go into relevant colums? Is this possible or am I wishfull thinking and in reality need to do it the long winded way of cutting & pasting each word?

    eg.

Mr Brown, 1 the street, townville, somethingshrie, w12 34t

to automatically split into labelled colums eg.
    Name, address, Town, County, postcode

    With Many Thanks

    Thanks Old Chippy.

Sorry I didn't explain myself very well. I'm actually taking the information from the body of emails not from the contact info.

    Cheers

Copy your data and paste into column A, then go to Data > Text to columns and follow the steps through

    Thanks again Old Chippy

I've tried the 'text to columns' as you've suggested but it didn't work quite the way I wanted it to.

I think it's going to be impossible as all the addresses are slightly different in the amount of commas used to seperate them, as some have towns & sub towns, some just use post codes. therefore the information can not go into the correctly labelled columns.

Oh well only another 750 addresses to do!

    Thumbs up

    Old Chippy you're a MARVEL!!

I just needed another coffee to think it through. I test copied 10 addresses over, substitued missing data with a comma and voila!

    You've made my day!!!!

It's amazing what a cup of coffee and a bit of lateral thinking can do - thanks for the feedback
