    Question Negative percentage

    Hi all,

New user here and I hope I can make my question as clear as possible. I am making a spreadsheet for my investments and I want to know what formula to use to display the increase in value in a percent which will include positive and negative percentages?

    A B
    1 Total amount invested $100
    2 Current total value $95
    3 Profit/Loss -5
    4 Percent -5%

I want to display the percentage of money I have made or lost for a time period so I need to know the formula to enter into cell B4 that will calculate the percentage automatically when I change the value of cells B1 and B2. And I want it to display as either a positive or negative percent?

    I hope that was clear.

    Thanks,

You may have to format the cell as a percentage or the decimal point will be in the wrong spot. If do not want the % sign showing see the following code

Thank you very much Al for your quick response. I was up for a while trying to figure that calculation out.

If I want to add up a whole column is there an easier way than putting =a1+a2+a3+a4?

    Thanks again,

    Maggie
