I want cells B5, C5, D5, E5, F5, G5, H5 to be highlighted in a colour (say green), if cell A5 = "Actual".

Just select the range B5:H5 (starting at B5) and then use
Format > Conditional formatting > "formula is"
=$A5="Actual"
select green format > OK
Note: you must include the $
Select cells B5:H5 and go to Format|Conditional Formatting.
Choose Formula Is from 1st drop down menu and enter formula:
=$A5="Actual"
then click Format and go to Pattern tab to choose green...
Click Ok.
Click Ok again.
Where there is a will there are many ways.

Select the cells you want formatting, go to Conditional formatting and in the Formula as, enter =$A$5="Actual", then set format as you require
