    mutilpe answers to cell

In cell S6, I have the count of "a" which =8 in a period of two week. These two weeks conisting of D6 through Q6. If I insert an "a" in any two or three cells within this row I will automaically get a sum of 16 or 24 or depending on the number of times an "a" appears. What i'm looking for is being able to enter also "a1" or "a2" "a3""a4" and if "a1" apears in the row it will also calculate with any given "a" "a1" or "a2". "a1" will reprsent 1 hour and "a2" will represent 2 hours and so on.

    Try:
    =SUM(IF(LEFT(D6:Q6)="a",MID(D6:Q6,2,2)+0))

which must be confirmed with CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER not just ENTER. You will see { } brackets appear...then you can copy down the formula.
Where there is a will there are many ways.
