returning values from a date range

    Hi.

I am afraid I'm in a 'can't see the wood from the trees' situation. In the attached worksheet I have 2 columns. Col A is dd/mm/yyyy and Col B are Ticket Numbers, whereby there are maybe more than one ticket number for a particular date.

What I am aiming for is to be able to query dates against ticket numbers on a month by month basis in order to reconcile against an account.

I cannot seem even to work out what sort of function I need. My knowledge of excel is not that great, so if you could be gentle please...

Any pointers gratefully received. Thanks in advance.

It's not immediately clear what your intended end result is -- ie are you simplying trying to get a picture with regard to which tickets were issued on a given day or are you trying to enter a ticket number and establish on which date it was issued ?

For the former I'd strongly suggest a pivot table for the latter you could use:

    =INDEX(A1:A1000,MATCH(C1,B1:B1000,0),1)

where C1 holds the ticket number you're looking for.

I've attached a quick and dirty PT based on the first notion (ie show tickets issued by date)

You could move date to be a Page Field (ie use as a pick list to show only one date of choice at any given time)

Sorry, I am looking to see which tickets were issued on a particular day, more specifically, on a monthly basis.

If you take a look at the PT I provided you can right click on any date in Column A -> select Group & Show Detail -> Group -> Select: Days / Months / Years

Is that what you want ?
