    Absolute beginner

Im trying to teach myself excel, and am trying a few exercises i found. I've become stuck on with a certain topic and any help would be great.

    the questions are:

Create A summary column that displays the student’s overall achievement in the course

i.e. whether the student has passed or failed the course. A guide to how the individual
subjects are weighted is provided below. Students are also graded on a compulsory
subject 1 and a “best 4 out of 5 subjects” for the remainder. This means that the
results of subject 1 must be included in the overall result and the best 4 out of the
remaining 5 marks are taken to form the remainder of the mark (expressed as a
percentage). Subject 1 counts for 60% of the overall course mark. Each of the other
subjects counts for 10% of the overall course mark. The pass mark is 40%.

    Specky, welcome to the forum.

Please take a moment to review the forum rules (link in my signature and in many locations throughout the forums) and then adjust your thread title to something descriptive of your problem.

Also, we typically don't do homework assignments, but are more than willing to help with specific questions or issues that you cannot overcome. My suggestion is to both read the built-in Excel help files on various functions, as well as searching our forum for similar questions, and then post more specific questions when you really cannot figure it out.
