Displaying a text in an X amount of columns

I know this is probably an easy answer. But how do you make a text take up an X amount of columns.

    Ex: A1, B1 and C1 = Text (while A2, B2 and C2 = individual data)

    Thanks

can you elaborate with an example - this doesn't make a great deal of sense (to me at least!)
