sum of one column depending on the other one.

    Hi all

Hopefully you can help me with what I'm guessing is an embarrassingly simple thing I cannot get my head round.

I have a sheet of results which will be updated with 'y' when a test is successful.

I want to be able to count the 'y' entries in Column G when the value if Column A is a certain value ie 'Fred'

    Many thanks in advance,
    G

RESOLVED: Re: sum of one column depending on the other one.

Thanks folks - that works a treat. I went with the COUNTIFS option.

Thanks very much for taking the time to help.

    Cheers,
    G

As a side note, please update your profile to include your Excel version. Some formulas available in 2007 weren't available in 2003 and before, so knowing which version you're using helps us help you.
