align numbers in a column to centre

when I align numbers in a column to center , the numbers in the column appear like this:

    42,978
    7,458

    23,266
    43,730
    2,506

but I want them like this:
    6,947
    9,323
    8,113
    7,974

how can do that. I'm using excel 2007, student edition.
    thanks

    Arashin, welcome to the forum.

I'm afraid it's not clear what you want. The text above does not really portray how you want to see the results. Do you want more white space at the right hand edge of the cell, but still see your numbers right-aligned?

If so, format the cells with Text Alignment - Horizontal - Right (Indent) and set an indent number that suits your need.

If that's not what you want, please explain some more.

    cheers
