    Insert live exchange rate?

    Hi there,

I work with different currencies in my company, now I would to get an up to date state of the cask book. So I have $250, and 500EUR, now I want a formula (connecting to internet) that automatically multiplies the $250 with the current exchange rate, so I know how much I have in Euros in total.

    I hope you understand...

    thanks!

There are a few ways to do this I expect but when I had to do this myself, once I went to Data--> Import External Data --> New Web Query

I then typed http://www.x-rates.com/ into the browser window and clicked Go.

Scroll down and click the yellow arrow which is in the top left of the currency table and then click Import.

Stick it where you want it to go... then you can use this table for formulas and it will automatically update when you refresh using the External data toolbar.

There seems to be a lot of free Apps to get dynamic exchange rates with the new version of Excel (2013).
I have just used this one:

Hi, I know that this is a post from some time ago but I am trying to do the same thing and failing to get it to work.

I have attached what happens when I try to import the currency convertor. I am not sure if I am messing a step.

I basically need to convert from Rand to US$

any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Re: Insert live exchange rate?

Ive worked out how to do this in Mac Excel if anyone interested.

Ive created this link to the x-rate.com site and placed the file (renamed to an .iql type) and then added it to the Queries folder in the /Users/xxxxxx/Library/Group Containers/xxxxx.Office/User Content.localized/Queries folder

Then "Run Web query" under get External data

    Done

Let me know if any needs more detailed instructions 😎

Re: Insert live exchange rate? Easy solution

In the current Office 365 version of Excel, there is a built-in solution.

See the Microsoft "Get a currency exchange rate" article 76572809
sorry I can't post the url as I'm only a new member).

However, the article didn't work out of the box for me. It says to use the "Currency" data type, but I could only see the 'Stocks" data type. I selected my currency pairs, then clicked on 'Stocks' (under 'Data Types'), and then insert "Price" and it worked fine.

Click on 'Refresh All" to lookup the current rate. The rate doesn't appear to be the live mid market rate, but it's close enough for me (say within 0.2% most of the time).
