    Question Sorting Data without blanks

Hi. I have a Master parts list of 6000 plus parts which all have unique part numbers.

To make life easier I wish to sort these parts onto separate sheets by application e.g.
Cleaning materials, machine parts, Universal parts etc while keeping the master parts list in numerical order. There are 6 categories.

In column "A" I have a 3 letter code e.g. Uni for universal parts, Mac for machine parts.
In column "B" I have the part number and in "C" the part description on so on for cost etc.

Sorting them into the correct sheets is not a problem except it leaves hundreds of blanks, so how do I transfer the parts sorted to the correct sheets without blanks. I have used IF. Vlookup both with limited success and also nested If Vlookup again with limited success.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    Thanks PN500

As advised I have added an attachment which you will see the prefix sometimes is in order in the master parts list, however the part numbers are no in order. You will also see the different sheets should be in part number order.

    Thanks PN500

To best describe or illustrate your problem you would be better off attaching a dummy workbook, the workbook should contain the same structure and some dummy data of the same type as the type you have in your real workbook - so, if a cell contains numbers & letters in this format abc-123 then that should be reflected in the dummy workbook.

If needed supply a before and after sheet in the workbook so the person helping you can see what you are trying to achieve.

Doing this will ensure you get the result you need!

    Hi PN500,

Have you tried AutoFilters for your data instead of moving to separate sheets?

No, I'm new to excel so I am stumbling around in the dark.

If your data is set up as a table, you can click anywhere in the data and then on the Filter Tab and then use the automatic filter dropdowns. Excel is great for this job if you data is in a table....

Search the net for Excel Autofilter or look at http://www.wikihow.com/Use-AutoFilter-in-MS-Excel to begin.
