You can't use reference to another workbook for data validation

    Hi all,

I am getting the message as above when trying to use a list from another workbook.
I have managed to get one list in with reference to another workbook, so why can't I do it again? (rhetorical question!)
I have defined a name for the cells I want to use but I am now stuck.
    Help please

Have you followed instructions shown here?

Where there is a will there are many ways.

    No!

    ............ I have now & it works

I almost followed the instructions but rather than putting the list name, I was highlighting the cells that contained the list, as per the Excel help line number 6 as follows

    5. On the Window menu, click the name of the workbook that contains the list of dropdown entries, and then click the worksheet that contains the list.

    6. Select the cells containing the list.

    7. In the Define Name dialog box, click Add, and then click Close.

However, as I said, it works now

    Thanks again
