Only background is printing--Possible font problem?

I have a worksheet which was generated by someone else and sent to me to fill out.

When I attempt to print, I get pages of only the cell shading, no data. Print Preview includes all the data. The printer works otherwise.

When I attempt to print to pdf, Excel makes the "happy tone" and the progress box closes, but the file never appears in the destination folder.

My suspicion is that the problem is related to the font used, but Excel will not allow me to change the font. (Possibly because the document was generated by someone else.) The font in question is Arial, which I have installed (and I have tried downloading and re-installing). But I had a similar problem in FileMaker Pro, where a file sent to me appeared blank, which was resolved by choosing a new font.

I'm using Office X for Mac.
