    Looking for a valuemodifier

    Greetings,

I've only recently begun working with excel, and I'm still pretty green, so I'm hoping someone will be able to explain how to do the following. I'm most likely not even using the correct terminology, so bear with me.

What I'm looking to do, is setting up a value modifier, in the form of a text based dropdown menu.

For instance, a value of 1 with the text modifier option A, should multiply by ... lets just say 1.5, while text modifier option B should multiply by 2.

    Example ..

A1 is used to enter the number of cars.
A2 holds a dropdown menu with a list of 10 different cars.
A3 states the cost of X amount of cars by multiplying the value of A1 by the cost of the car chosen in the list.

    - obviously, I'd need a vlookup, but that I think I can do.

Anyone got an idea and a minute to spare?

    Thanks,
    A

    Re: Looking for a valuemodifier

    =A1*VLOOKUP(A1,$X$1:$Y$10,2,FALSE)

where X1:Y10 contains your table of cars and associated prices... adjust as necessary.
Where there is a will there are many ways.
