    cell references

I am using Excel 2003: In cell J6 I have =IF(M_Y1!$X$6="","",M_Y1!$X$6). I would like J7 to be =IF(M_Y1!$X$7="","",M_Y1!$X$7), J8 to be =IF(M_Y1!$X$8="","",M_Y1!$X$8) and so on. If I highlight these cells and drag to the bottom of my column I just get the 3 references repeated lots of times. How can I get my column to go from =IF(M_Y1!$X$6="","",M_Y1!$X$6) to =IF(M_Y1!$X$130="","",M_Y1!$X$130) without having to change the number in each cell? Thanks for your help.

    Re: cell references

The $ sign in front of a row number or column letter makes it "absolute", when you copy down (or across in the case of column letters) it doesn't change - you need the row number (at least) to be "relative" so remove the $ signs in front of the row numbers, i.e. use this formula in J6 and copy that down

    =IF(M_Y1!$X6="","",M_Y1!$X6)
    Audere est facere
