Excel Stock Chart does not accept values from other cells (=A1)?

    Hi,

I am trying to create an Excel 2003 stock chart and it is working fine if I just enter random values for the open, high, low and close.

However I want to point to another cell for the correct values. For example =A1 for Open, =B1, for High, ect. Because in those cells are values determined by a formula, and they change based on some things.

However it is not working. And I know it is exactly that which is not working. Because if I just erase the =A1, =B1, ect and put instead random values like 1, or 2 then the chart works.

What can I do to make this work? I would also like to point out that the chart is not going to be dynamic in that the number of bars used will be different. They will always be the same amount, and the values always taken from the same location.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The only thing that comes to my mind is to create some kind of macro that copy pastes the values from A1, B1, ect. To the cells that the chart uses. And somehow make it do that over and over again when the values change.

I'll post this image to begin with:

The 2, 5, 1 and 5 are just normal numbers that I entered in and the chart reads them.
The others however are links to other cells like =A1, =B1, =C1, =D1. And it is not reading them.

And also all numbers are in the same format, "Number".

Can't really offer much help from a image other than the data table in the chart is display zeros. So check the values really are numbers and not text.

Understood, and yes they are all numbers. Yeah the chart displaying zeros is the weird part.

I didn't share a file because this is a part of a much larger file. But I am now re creating this in a new workbook and so far it is working. However I have not added all the loops the data goes through. So far it is only linking to another cell, which links to another worksheet. And it works. Next would be adding the dynamic part where it looks for the correct value to display based on some things.

But it just seems to be all working so I'm just sure it would change a thing. I'm finding no difference between the 2 except the main workbook with the error goes through more loops to get the correct data.

I will just mark this as solved and figure out a way. Thanks for the help!

If you populated the cells with copy/paste it is possible they may look like numbers and have the Number format but are still text.

What you can try on the non working file is put 1 in a spare cell. Copy it.
Select the numbers that are referenced in A1 etc. and copy/paste special Multiply. This will convert text into numbers if the values.
