typing "/" at beginning of cell brings up short cut characters - how shut off?

I am using excel 2010. When I hit the "/" key at the beginning of a cell instead of showing the "/" character in the cell, numbers and letters pop up at the top of the screen overtop of the different tabs. ie F pops up over File H pops up over Home N popsup over Insert. These look like short cut keys. How do I shut this function off to use the "/" key at the beginning of cell? It just started happening.

    Thank you!

    roccinstaller,

    1. Press the Office Button
    2. Excel Options
    3. Advanced
    4. Scroll to the section "Lotus compatibility" (near the bottom)
    5. delete the "/" in the box for Microsoft Office Excel menu key
    Hope that helps,
