    Pivot Table??

    Morning,

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. I think I need to create a pivot table but have no idea really what one is, nevermind how to create it. What I'm trying to do is:

    - on the sheet labelled students
    - list all the students on the sheet 'input sheet' in column G
    - then in the column next to their name in sheet 'students' is the number of times their name appears

(I have changed all students names to Student 1, etc.)

    Many thanks

You should google "excel pivot table" first.

    Re: Pivot Table??

So would a pivot table be able to do this or is it going to be a formula? - I was looking for a point in the right direction.

    Cheers

Yes, you can do it using pivot tables. Select name of the student as the row field and count of student name as the data field.
