    cell containing both text and number. how to total number alone?

    Respected sir,
    at column [B] cells contains both text and a number. There are about 100 rows. Is it possible only to sum the number omiting the text? if sum and plus sign is added "#value" is flashed. if sum and comma is used, value "0" is returned.

    Hi try this user-defined function. it will only pick up whole numbers, not numbers with decimals. Let me know if you need to add code to pick up partial numbers

    respected twiggywales, I like people who add the name of their place of living.
    coloumn a: record number
    Coloumn b name and weight in kg
    eg 1. Vignesh 32 kg
    2. John 34 kg
    3. sheila 33 kg My question is without adding additional coloumn is it possible to average b1 to b3

    A sample file is always helpful.. Anyway try this with CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER

    this would also do it (set for 1000 cells) again entered with CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER
