    Conditional formatting

I am looking to add an IF function in the conditional formatting as follows:

conditional formatting>new rule>use a formula to determine which cells to format

Can you add an IF statement to the 'format value where the formula is true' box, as below:

    =IF(cell ref<0,"Reached Target","")
and format the function to make the On Target text green?

Nice greeting - thanks for all your help. Will check everything with the forum but was just getting to grips with it.

My question to anyone that could help below:

    Re: Conditional formatting

A conditional formatting formula has to return TRUE/FALSE or a numeric value (anything except 0 is TRUE).

    Re: Conditional formatting

    Hi Fran,

I would place that formula in the cell to give you the text then in condictional formatting. Use the 'format only cells that contain' and put your text in there.

    Thats the easiest way.

    Re: Conditional formatting

I'm not clear on what you are trying to achieve. How is your target selected? Are we talking about a column of data and as soon as the value in the cell falls below 0, to turn that cell green?

    Re: Conditional formatting

See the attached. It's difficult to help without seeing your workbook and just like the others I have difficulty understanding what you are trying to achieve. The assumption from what you have said is that A1 in my example (you gave no cell refs) is looking for a negative figure (<0) to display "Reached target" in B1 which will be coloured green with CF as shown.

    Re: Conditional formatting

Now that OP found his solution, just wondering. The new member in Post # 2, right, proposed in OP, to change the title, becoming the villain .. WOLF

    All respondents did not see this message? Why answered the original question;

If the questioner has violated the rules, then all the respondents, ignoring the call of our member, what did they do?

Sorry if I look bad but if there are no rules anymore in the forum, I regret that I did not understand.

    Are rules here? ΟR ΝΟ?

    None MOD there;

    Re: Conditional formatting

    Hi Fotis,

Fran did change the title, but only in the third post of the thread. Replies to the thread take their title from the first post, if I'm not mistaken. So the change was made, just in the wrong place. I can fix that.

Thanks for bringing it to our attention, though.

    Re: Conditional formatting

I assumed it was because the rule says:
"Don't ignore requests by Administrators, Moderators, or senior members of the forum."
and the responders don't consider npamcpp (who joined yesterday) to be a senior member.
I doubt that shg would violate the rule otherwise.

    Re: Conditional formatting

No, I had seen the request and also the fact that the OP had made the change albeit, as Paul says, in the wrong place. But a good point. npamcpp has had a hard day.

    Re: Conditional formatting

To me, "senior members" could simply be anyone who has more posts than you. If you have one post, and someone with 20 politely asks you to comply with a forum rule it is obvious they understand there are rules and that they should be adhered to. While we don't want the equivalent of vigilantism or shaming, it is nice to see newer forum members taking a role in helping us make the forum a better place. For that, npamcpp, I thank you. And thanks to Fran for acknowledging the request.

    Have a great day, everyone!

    Re: Conditional formatting

Fotis, Fran's title change in Post #3 occurred 1 hour and 43 minutes prior to your post about the rules (post #9). My post, and subsequent changing of all of the post titles in this thread, occurred afterward. Post #3 has not been edited since it was originally posted (or at least not by 3 minutes later when shg replied). If it had been edited afterward, there would be an Edit note within the post just like there is for every post I edited.

Please feel free to continue posting and helping others, but do not feel it is your right to circumvent the forum rules at will.

Thanks, and have a wonderful day/night.
