Excel 2010 - Rows disappear when using filters

    Hi,

When I create a filter on a small table of data, if I restrict the rows using the filter, the next row under the data has a row number that is (far) greater than the row number following the data before using the filter.

    row number
1 Department Staff Member Month Sales
    2 Clothing A Deakin Jan $3,300
    3 Clothing H Holt Feb $2,905
    4 Clothing K Rudd Mar $3,452
    5 Clothing J Howard Apr $2,865
    6 Outdoor P Keating Jan $4,012
    7 Outdoor E Barton Feb $2,996
    8 Outdoor A Deakin Mar $3,652
    9 Outdoor H Holt Apr $3,852
    10 Sports K Rudd Jan $3,745
    11 Sports J Howard Feb $4,132
    12 Sports P Keating Mar $2,795
    13 Sports E Barton Apr $3,215
    14

This data occupies the first 13 rows of the worksheet.
    Row 14 is empty.
If I apply a filter to column B (Department) and filter to Clothing
    the worksheet appears
1 Department Staff Member Month Sales
    2 Clothing A Deakin Jan $3,300
    3 Clothing H Holt Feb $2,905
    4 Clothing K Rudd Mar $3,452
    5 Clothing J Howard Apr $2,865
    26
    27
    etc

Why does the row number jump to 26? Why is it not 14?

    Thank you

    Hi

You inserted table for the range A1 to B25. if table used in the excel filter method apply the whole table and not consider the cell. so that if you filter the range with text like 'Clothing', excel filter the data from the table used range (i.e A1 to B25) and show the criteria matched result . in your example row 14 to 25 is blank and not matched the criteria, so it hides the row.
For detailed reference find the attached excel
