Allow pasting and autofill while maintaining formatting

I am asking others to enter data into a spreadsheet and want them to be able to both paste in and autofill entered data. I can't seem to allow this type of entry but still protect the formatting of the cells. Any ideas?

Have you tried Protecting the Sheet via the Review menu > Protect Sheet?
