combining multiple rows with duplicate information and prioritizing columns

    TEST2.xls

    Hello,

I have over 500 rows of children enrolled in our clinic. Each child has multiple rows - one that indicates parent registration, one that indicates nextgen status and one that indicates medication alert list. I'd like to combine them so I have one row that has columns for parent registration, nextgen status and medication alert list.

Then I need to prioritize the columns and count children without duplicates from the columns. For example, kids with parent registration should only be reported once. Anyone without parent registration but has a nextgen status should be counted and then kids that don't have either parent registration or nextgen but have medication alert status should be counted.

I am doing this to determine what's the best way to identify our kids who have an asthma diagnosis.

Thanks so much for your help. I've attached a sample excel spread sheet with fake names of what I'm trying to do.

    Best,

    Kate

I think you can use Pivot Table to do exactly what you want. See attached file for example.

Thank you for your help. I really appreciate it. I'll try to do a pivot table but even with the pivot table it appears that I am double or triple counting the same child. I want to also uniquely count each child only once.

If you have any thoughts on that please let me know.
