Countifs (How to give criteria for blank cell).

I m working on “COUNTIFS” formula one of my criteria is the cell should be blank for particular column . My column is having dates data .If the cell is “NIL” the count should calculate .
Note –For that particular column I have given the data variation as a DATA RANGE.
I don’t know what criteria I have to give as Blank ,Can anyone help me .

Does "" (ie two sets of quotes - no space between them) not work?

=ISBLANK(A1)

Returns ture or false.
