Excel 2010 - Unable to Insert Column - Error message not helping

I have a spreadsheet that has lots of lookups, formulas in different cells; however, when I attempt to insert a column - I get the following error:

Excel Cannot complete this task with available resourses. Choose less data or close other applications.

I've followed the standard MS instructions, with no success.

All I wanna do is add two columns

Please help

If you pull up the task manager in windows and look at your 'Free' Physical Memory on the Resources tab, I imagine that it is extremely low.
Typically that message pops up when too many things are running on the PC, which prohibits excel from doing much.
My recommendation is to either close some things that are running, or an easier way to essentially reboot the memory used is to just save and restart the computer.

tried that too, it didn't help. Only way I could add the two columns is by moving the data over two columns...which doesn't make sense. I could move the data but couldn't insert columns.

Some while ago i was facing the same problem in excel 2007 and i did the following adjustment then it works perfectly.

Go to:-

Excel Option >Advance >Display options for this workbook > for objects, show; All(click on all)
