Hello from a UK newbie - right forum?

Hi. Not sure if this is the right forum to ask but here goes.
I have one Excel column (Column 1) with several thousand UK postcodes in ( format eg HU5 4KL or HU16 9PW, that is 6 or 7 character's with a space separating the last four). Any given postcode may occur more than once in this column. In my second column (Column 2) I have approx. 40 post codes. I need to determine if AND how many times, any of the post codes in column 2 occurs in column 1.
I am fairly new to Excel and am struggling, especially with determining HOW MANY TIMES a post code occurs. Many thanks

    Hi
I'm afraid you'll have to adapt your thread title first according to forum rules

Put this in C1 and paste it down the length of column B data

    =COUNTIF(A:A,B1)
