calculate percentage of a percentage

Hi every1

I need your help calculating the percentage of a percentage and writing the formula for excel.

There are 295 people in a room, of the 295, 75 or 25% are mothers. (I know how to calculate 25% - 75/295 = 25.42) of the 75 mothers 35 have 3 children, 32 have 2 children and 10 have 1 child.

This is what I need help with.
35 is what percent of 25%

32 is what percent of 25%

10 is what percent of 25%

Hi,

I'm afraid your question is not logically meaningful. There is, strictly speaking, no proper answer to "32 is what percent of 25%?". You could just about get away with asking: "32 is what percent of 25% of 295?" but then this becomes simply "32 is what percent of 73.75?" to which the answer is: "43% to 2 significant figures." In general, you can only speak of a percent of a number, not of another percent.

As stated earlier you cant really have a percentage of a percentage.
You should be asking

This is what I need help with.
35 is what percent of 75?

32 is what percent of 75?

10 is what percent of 75?

Which is obviously x / 75 * 100
where x is the first number above

There's nothing magic about percentages.

35/75, or 46%, of mothers have 3 kids

35/75 * 75/295 (==35/295), or 12% of the people in the room, are mothers with three kids.
