How to combine 2 values of a given variable in pivot tableand call it by a separate name?

    Hi Excel Forum,

In the attached pivot table (Excel 2010), the “house_SUBTYPE” variable has 3 values (i.e. CONDO, FREEHOLD AND LEASEHOLD) – please see the “source_data” tab.

    Question:

In the pivot_table (see “pivot_table" tab), I want to combine FREEHOLD AND LEASEHOLD values together, and call that combined value as “house” (note FREEHOLD AND LEASEHOLD are not variables but two values of a single variable).

Could anyone let me know how to do it?

I think “calculated filed” functionality is not the correct choice to do this, isn’t it?
    Thanks

    Hi Excel Forum,

I am sorry, I did not present the problem clearly, I think.

I found that the "group by" option was able to do this.

    Thanks
