Fill Down help with 3 digit numbers

Is it possible when using the Fill Down function (I assume its when you type a number in two cells and drag down to auto fill with more numbers) that the first one and two digit numbers will fill with a zero in front of them? How do you do this?
    Example: instead of ...
    1
    2
    3
    it would be....
    001
    002
    003
    etc, etc.

You can apply a custom format to the cells of:

    000

which will ensure that you will see 3 digits, with leading zeros where required.

    Hope this helps.

you could just format that using the format cells....click on the column and right click and go to format....choose custom....in the custom box put 000.....yes, 3 zero's....HTH.....and welcome to the forum.....

Re: Fill Down help with 3 digit numbers

OK found another problem. I am using this to set up a Tab Delimited txt file for photo renaming program.
In the first column, I have my numbers 001 and on down. In the second column, I need the file name .dng next to the numbered column so I can do the formula =A1&B1 to merge the adjacent cells to read 001.dng, 002.dng, etc, etc. When I merge the data, I lose the zero in front. How do I keep from losing the zero's or is there and easier way to create what I am doing? I need to create list with about 500 numbers with file extensions down the column.

Example of the final result needed:
    001.dng
    002.dng
    003.dng
