Two cells highlighted but want one

When I copy and paste info sometimes I get two cells highlighted to paste into but I only want one and cannot get only one highlighted. If I continue to paste into the two highlighted cells it pastes into both... but I only want the info in one of them. How do I get these cells to stop being combined. .. they are not merged either.

    Hi deb05,

Does this happen in every Workbook you use?

And you Copy only One Cell & then Paste it into only One (Non Merged) Cell?

    Is that right?

Re: Two cells highlighted but want one

I have this same problem with a file I have, and to be honest I just work around it. When I click in my display sheet it highlights two consecutive columns for that row (so it sounds the same as your issue). My workaround is to just use the arrows at that point and then excel will focus on that single cell.
So I'm going to watch this thread to see what if anything people offer as a solution.

Could you post a workbook where this is happening so we can have a look at it?

Haha it just happened to me too
I was just clicking one cell, but it selected 3 and it kept doing so on every cell I clicked. I solved it by randomly selecting multiple cells. After that I clicked one cell and it stopped trippin'

Re: Two cells highlighted but want one

I was thinking of posting my workbook but didn't want to be nailed for hyjacking someone else's thread. I kept waiting for the OP to join back in and post their workbook to see if it was the same issue I have.

I have four workbooks that it does this on. And honestly that is my way of working around it, just using the arrow keys to the left or right and that deselects the multiple cells. I find it annoying but I only update these workbooks once a month and they are small so I can get in and out quickly so I'm used to it.

Interesting, I see how that works but it isn't (or wasn't) on. So I activated it and deactivated it and it still grabs multiple cells each time I put my cursor in "one". So I put my cursor over and click in cell P3 and it highlights P3, Q3 and sometimes R3.
