Initial set up of Excel 2007

I am using Excel 2007 and I have a question about the initial set up. When opening up a new spreadsheet I put in place the page borders (A4 in my case) and what I would like to do is isolate a single page and delete all the other pages so it appears as a new page in Word but with all the facilities of Excel. Is this possible? If so how is it done?

    Hi grahamila,

I'm not sure what you are after here.

Do you want to paste an Excel worksheet into a Word document?

If so, this is possible using VBA.

Your post is vague when describing what application you're talking about.

Can you clarify what you need when you are discussing Word, say so.

    I took your post to mean the below;

G'day and welcome to the forum.

Not sure what the result your after, but sounds like you need to learn how to use the 'Page Break' in excel. Using the page break there is no need in deleting any information, it will only print in the page break area.

    Thanks for your reply

You are right, I want to paste an Excel worksheet into a Word document but still be able to use the Excel functions. I am very new to all this so you will have to explain what VBA is.

Re: Initial set up of Excel 2007

    Hi grahamila,

I'm using Office 2013 for this & did the following to achieve what you wanted.

Open a Word doc & select Insert >> Table >> Excel Spreadsheet.

This will insert a table that is an Excel spreadsheet & will calculate Formulas.

I'd recommend this rather than VBA if you're unfamiliar with VBA.

VBA is a programming language that gives instructions to the application to do what you've written in the VBA code.

I'm not sure if this functionality is available in previous versions of Excel as I only have Office 2013 on this PC.

Many thanks for your reply. Is it possible by this method to use the spreadsheet as a database? I ask this as the Excel ribbons do not appear when copying it into a Word document.

If you Right click inside the table on the Word doc, you can select 'Worksheet Object >> Edit.

The Excel headings will appear for you to use.

Re: Initial set up of Excel 2007

When you copy from Excel and then paste into Word, you have several options for pasting including Paste Link which is a one way link from Excel to Word but not from Word to Excel. The functionality of Excel isn't part of the link.

Word tables themselves have very limited mathematical abilities.

Re: Initial set up of Excel 2007

I see how easy it is to paste an Excel spreadsheet into Word. However, what I cannot see how to do is to fill the Word document with the spreadsheet. Is this possible?

Re: Initial set up of Excel 2007

Place the upper left corner of the table where you want it in the upper left of your Word page. There is a small sizing square in the lower right of the table. Move the cursor over this sizing handle until it turns to arrows. Left click and hold and drag to size the table.

    Method 2:

Right click in the table and choose TABLE PROPERTIES. Click on the Table tab and enter the size that you want.

Thank you for your reply. I have tried method 1 which works . With method 2 when I right click in the table there is no option TABLE PROPERTIES. I presume you mean the Excel table in the Word document.

Sorry, but I cannot find the option TABLE PROPERTIES. I am sure it is something I am doing or not doing.

Re: Initial set up of Excel 2007

Click inside the table in Word, right click and choose Table Properties. It has been a while since I used version 2007 but it should be there, maybe with different wording. It might be just Table and then properties under that. Format Table would also be good....sorry but I am trying to remember the options after a few years.

Re: Initial set up of Excel 2007

Thanks again for a prompt reply. I have tried again right clicking but there is no Table Properties or Table or anything where the size of the table can be specified.

I did a Google search for Word 2007 table properties and came across this website that should help you out better than I can by memory.

Re: Initial set up of Excel 2007

Thank you very much for your help. I have tried all the options when right clicking in the excel spreadsheet within the Word document and it appears the only way to fix the table size is to click and drag to the dimensions required. I will certainly take a look at the website you suggest.

Re: Initial set up of Excel 2007

You will be able to set the width of the table but the length is variable depending upon the contents of the cells in each row. If you insert a table, normally it goes right across the page between the margins then if you have a set number of rows insert them then use the sizing handle on the bottom right of the table and drag to fill the page.

That is about all that I can offer.
