Searching for string variables in separate excel documents

Hello,

I'm trying to find a way to search other excel documents for string variable values and display the number of matches in a cell.

A quick background of the problem: Our hotel keeps track of each months late cancellations in separate excel documents, with each reservation cancellation being recorded on seperate rows. I would like to have a cell at the end that searches for and displays a running total of how many times the guest has cancelled in the last 12 months.

Unfortunately I cannot have all months within one document, hence the question.
