mail merge issues: data source locked & error in cell with a date in it

When I try to open up my data source document, it states "locked for editing by another user." What do I need to do to open up the file, add new columns or new data? After a main doc and data source are linked are there instances when the data source is not available for amendments or updates?

Also, I need to add 45 days to a given date in my source file. I tried formatting the cell for a "date" before I perform the formula but am getting an error message (##########). What am I doing wrong? I understand how to do the formula but seem to have a format error. Can you help?

    Excel - new case 3.xlsx
