Formula to get cells in col A to autmatically fill in from the beginning entry of the day

    Hello

I am trying something that looks easy but is probably impossible. Hopefully one of you wonderful people out there can help. Here's my scenario......
I have a cell that always shows a text/number combination value, but the text/number combo changes daily..(automatically from another sheet).
Today cell A1 will show G5, tomorrow it may show G15. What I am trying to do is get cell A2, A3, A4...etc to fill in ascending from the from the beginning entry of the day so..
if A1 =G5 today, how can I make cells A2, A3, A4,...& (all of column A) automatically fill in as G6, G7, G8..etc. The text part of the value is always G so its just the number that ascends. I can of course do this with the manual autofill feature, but I really need to create a formula so it will fill itself in.

    Thank you sktnner
This doesn't seem to be working but it is way further than I got. The daily value is already in A1, so I need the formula to start in A2. I tried using this formula from A2 down but it doesn't fill in when the value in A1 changes
