Question How to compare and combine data from new and old product lists?

I'm pretty new to using excel and am having a bit of a problem with this. I have two spreadsheets full of products one of new products and the other of old products. I want to filter out the old ones that are discontinued but keep the ones that are still there. The old list has data I want to preserve for the new listings that would be duplicates from the old ones. I want to delete the new listings that already exist in the old list. I'm not sure exactly how to do it. I tried to delete dups based on product id or name but I'm afraid it's deleting entries I want to keep. Both lists contain over 5000 products each. I need to compare two lists and filter out the old products then work on removing the dupes. I hope this explains what I'm trying to do.

Suggest using the COUNTIF or VLOOKUP functions to identify the rows that your two sheets have in common. See Excel help for details.

not sure how those can help, I don't need to count or search for information. I have the listing sorted in such that the new products are on top of the old so I could prune any of the old ones that don't match with the new, I will then reverse the order to remove the dupes. I also have the new and old color coded. Maybe something could use that as reference.

A count of 1 means a name is in the list and a count of 0 means that it isn't.
